Predator Carburetor
The Predator Carburetor is a variable venturi design carb that controls fuel and air mixture based on the air demand of the engine. It's been proven that mixing larger amounts of fuel into the air entering an engine icreases performance when the air demand of the engine is high. Because of this, Predator has designed their carbs to respond to that demand, giving the correct air/fuel ration at any operating speed of the engine. Because of this, the engine is never "over" or "under" carbureted at any speed or under any load.
Other design features that Predator has included into their carburetor is the lack of internal gaskets and power valves. This means that the carburetor is designed for little to no maintenance. Jet changing is not required due to the variable venturi and it should perform well out of the box without any modification or setup.
Predator Carburetors Application
The application of this carb is varied. Predator touts that it can be used for drag races, circle track, mud bogs, boats, off road, tractor pulls, show cars and hill climbs. In the past, predator did not include an idle jet into the design, which made it a poor choice for street cars. In recent years, however, they have included an idle jet, which allows the engine to run reliably on the street as well as the race track or drag strip. In fact, because of the inclusion of this idle jet, engines ranging from 300 - 500 cubic inches can achieve an idle as low as 800 rpm.
Predator also makes a carburetor that's specifically designed for use with alcohol as the fuel. It's a modified version of the 6000 series and allows alcohol to be used as the primary source of fuel. It's comes either as a factory assembled unit or as we retrofit kit. Changes made to this carb are a special metering block, ball checks, nozzle bar and metering bars. There is also a special metering cam that is included for use with methanol. While installation of the kit is relatively easy, there are a few holes that must be drilled. A template is supplied which makes this process simple and it shouldn't take more than an afternoon.
Predator Quality Assurance
What makes Predators such unique and high quality pieces is that they are hand built. Each carburetor is inspected for quality and then tested to make sure that what you receive is a premium quality product that performs optimally. In addition to the hand build and inspection, the company runs every fifth carb through a series of tests. The carb is installed onto an engine and run through a smooth idle test, off idle test, midrange test and WOT test. These ensure that the line is continually producing consistent units.
The four barrel variable venturi design is a 930 cfm carb that is made with racing in mind. You can find these online at various dealers, or by contacting predator directly.
