Demon Carburetor
The Demon Carburetor has been designed and manufactured by Barry Grant, Inc. The company was founded in 1984, and specializes in making performance products that meet the needs of both the professional and enthusiast. The company makes an entire line of induction products for both street and track. In the Demon Carburetor family there are both carbs for the street, the Road Demon and Speed Demon, as well as carbs for the track, the King Demon and Race Demon and carbs for other applications, such as the Mighty Demon, Crate Engine Demon, 2-Barrel Demon and Marine Demon.
Besides performance, Barry Grant's line of Demon Carburetors also features unique design. With induction setups that include multiple carbs, these units provide old school looks with high performance design. In specific, you can look at the line of Demon 98 intake systems to get an idea of the unique look your hot rod can sport with these products. What makes Demon Carbs so unique is that they are the only carb to have a patented contoured air entries which provide peak horsepower, maximum torque and crisp throttle response.
Choosing the Right Demon
Choosing the right carburetor for your car depends on intended use, the size of your engine as well as your cam profile. If you're not sure about the engine size or cam profile, you may want to consult your manufacturer to find out. Also take into account any modification, such as boring the cylinders, as that will affect your engine size & any replacement cam that has been installed. Another thing you will need to consider is your budget. Demon carbs come in a large variety of styles that are designed for multiple applications and price ranges.
2-Barrel Road Demon
This carb is designed for a mild street car. These affordable carbs come in both 350 and 500 cfm and are designed for use on an engine with a cam duration of 220. You'll find that the smaller 350 cfm carb is designed for performance V6 engines and stock V8's, with an engine size up to 330 cubic inches. The 500 cfm version will go a bit further, allowing engine sizes up to 400 cubic inches. Again, this is going to be stock or nearly stock setups for a V8, while those with a high performance V6 will find that they can have a much beefier configuration and still use the 2-Barrel Road Demon
2-Barrel Race and Race/RS Demon
This is similar to the 2-Barrel Road demon, but has the circle track driver in mind. This two barrel carb is designed to go into your engine without any modification, and offers good performance at a more affordable price. Both the 2-Barrel Race and Race/RS are dimensional matches with the Holley 7448 and 4412 carburetors and meet check legal standards.
Road Demon Jr.
This Demon carb is designed for budget minded performance enthusiasts as well. Ideal for small block V8's with cam profiles of less than 220 degrees duration at 0.050". The smaller brother of the Road Demon shares many of the same features that you will find in that model. Things such as good throttle response, ease of tuning and good fuel economy are all hallmarks of this carb and it's predecessor.
You can get the Road Demon Jr. in cfm ratings from 525, 625 and 725. The standard features are manual choke, vacuum secondaries, Max-Density-cast metering blocks and a Max-Density cast baseplate. This carb is designed for mild or stock street cars.
Road Demon
The Road Demon is designed for street rods, mild street setups and light trucks. You'll get very smooth operation from this carb, with a very strong throttle response. Like the Jr. model, there are Max-Density baseplate and metering blocks on this carb as well. Things that are unique to the Road Demon are the large capacity fuel bowls and the sight glasses for easy tuning.
You can get the Road Demon in 625 525 and 725 cfm models. The 525 is designed for V6 engines and small V8s, up to 400 cubic inches. The 625, like the 525 is designed for smaller engines, up to 400 cubic inches and up to 350 horsepower. The 725 is designed for V8s up to 500 cubic inches. Because of the horsepower and engine size limitations, the Road Demon are best suited for stock vehicles and not race applications.
Speed Demon
The Speed Demon carb has a large variety of VE-series and twin-squirter design sizes. You can get the Speed demon in sizes that range from 575 cfm to 850 cfm. This carburetor is designed for use in street machines, rather than the track. If your passion is muscle cars or restoration cars, these carbs are designed with you in mind. They also meet the needs of towing applications and mild performance vehicles, as well as work well on crate motors.
These carbs are ideal for engines with cam profiles between 220 and 240 degrees duration with 0.050" lift. The design process used with these carbs and well as the manufacturing make them superior to most carbs that you find in the same price range. Again, these are for street motors and not for high performance use, such as drag cars.
Mighty Demon
This carburetor is designed for both performance and value. It will directly replace Holley HP models. The features that you find on the Mighty Demon are much the same that you find on the Speed and Road Demons. The differences are minute and for someone who's looking for performance on a budget, negligible. What's so impressive about the Mighty Demon is that it provides a lot of features, such as large capacity fuel bowls and streamlined air entries, that are only available on modified carburetors.
This carb was designed for high output and race engines. It's an affordable carb and one you could consider an "entry level" carb in terms of price. The quality is there and the features are there as well. You can also modify this unit using BG fuel systems carburetor service and tuning parts, which makes it flexible as well.
Race Demon
This is an all-out racing carburetor. The Race Demon will directly replace the Holley 4150 style carburetors. The Race Demon's features include billet-aluminum metering blocks, billet aluminum baseplates, patented removable boosters, large capacity fuel bowls and the patented sight glasses & streamlined air entires.
There are a large variety of factory tune-ups that you can choose from with the Race Demon: General Competition (GC), Oval Track (OT), Drag Race (DR), Tunnel Ram (TR) and Road Race (RR). This makes the Race Demon extremely flexible. You don't have to have a professional come in and modify your carb, it's all available in tune-ups from the factory.
King Demon
This is Barry Grant's highest performance piece. The King Demon is designed to do everything that a serious racing competitor needs it to do. It's designed with max airflow in mind and will replace Holley 4500 style carburetors. There are a full range of air capacities to choose from, depending on your application.
Other features that are notable on this carb are the 3-circuit billet-aluminum metering blocks, billet aluminumm baseplates, large capacity fuelbowlss with the sight glasses, the streamlines air entires and fully adjustable air bleeds, emulsion bleeds and idle feed restrictors. You can get these in two factory tune-ups, General Competition and Drag Race. They can also be services using Demon and BG Fuel Systems parts.
